Pneumatic
conveying is generally described as the transfer
of bulk materials through pipelines with the use
of compressed gasses. This is a very broad statement
embracing an enormous diversity of technology.
More
specifically, there is a primary division of system
types to distinguish between the particular behavior
of the bulk material traveling along the pipeline.
One type
of systems relies on mixing the material with the
conveying gas (air) to form a homogenous medium to
be maintained throughout the conveying process. This
method relies on mixing of the particles of the bulk
materials to remain airborne in the conveying gas.
This method is generally known as Dilute or Lean
Phase pneumatic conveying.
The other type of system does not require to form a homogeneous medium but relies instead on pushing a dense mass of the material slowly along the pipeline ahead of, or within, an expanding volume of gas. This method is known as Dense-Phase pneumatic conveying.
These differences are fundamental and considerably different approaches to satisfying the requirements of a particle material and the transfer requirements.
The Macawber group specializes in Dense-Phase pneumatic conveying which provides the only viable pneumatic conveying method for abrasive, hot, heavy, moist and/or fragile materials with the lowest energy requirements.
