Dilute Phase Systems
Dilute Phase: Low pressure – high velocity
Low pressure (<15psi), high velocity (60-130 ft/sec).
Material is conveyed above the saltation velocity.
Flow is homogeneous and fully suspended.
Velocities are typically 60-90 ft/sec at the feed end and 90-130 ft/sec at the terminal end.
Due to high velocity, dilute phase systems are generally aimed at materials that are not abrasive and degradation is not a critical concern to the process.
Limitations:
High energy requirements
Medium conveying rate (<1 to 50 tons/hr)
Wear: high velocity can damage equipment, pipe and particles
